Nicki Minaj: 'Used To Be Bi But Now I'm Just Hetero'

In a week that saw a huge music collaboration between Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce on the "Savage Remix," socially embattled rapper Nicki Minaj is attempting to steal some of their shine on the remix to rapper/singer Doja Cat's hit single "Say So." The track dropped early Friday morning, and depending on where you fall in terms of adoration for the "Super Bass" singer, it's either the comeback you've been waiting for or a huge fail.

For Minaj's LGBTQ fans who listen closely for lyrical content, they may be in for a jarring surprise. On one verse Minaj spits: "Used to be bi but now I'm just hetero."

Fans who have followed Minaj's career from the beginning may recall a marketing tool she employed in the infancy of her career by labeling herself as a bisexual rapper. It's a claim that she later retracted in a 2012 interview with Rolling Stone.

"I think girls are sexy," she's quoted as saying. "But I'm not going to lie and say that I date girls."

We're not going to kick a woman when she's down—and Minaj has been working hard to pull herself up from the bottom of the musical trash pile lately. But in a world where bisexual people are rendered invisible and discussions about the validity of this sexual orientation are being discussed in homes and on social media, Minaj's statement only further fuels the idea that bisexuality isn't a real or 'fixed' sexual orientation for many, or at worst, is simply a marketing ploy to increase an artists profile and to sell records. Is this queen behavior? .
