Etsy, the global online marketplace, where people come together to make, sell, buy, and collect unique items is expanding its reach into the LGBTQ+ community in time for the holiday season with an inclusive and heart-warming ad featuring a Black gay couple.
The new ad campaign titled "Gift Like You Mean It," features Brandon and David, a gay couple visiting family during the Christmas holiday. The anxiety of a same-sex partner visiting his spouse's family during the holiday is palpable for viewers of the ad who may have been in a similar situation in their own lives.
“Don’t worry, they’re going to love you,” one partner says to the other. Later in the ad, an elderly relative says, "We didn't forget about you. Welcome to the family,” and presents them with a needlepoint tree ornament with their names etched on it.
It's not often that Black gay couples, whether real or fictional, are represented in media. This ad is an unexpected early holiday gift that Black gay men and youth deserve to receive.
